Closing the women’s health gap

A Biotropics clinical study by women, on women, for women.

Kuala Lumpur, December 2024. Gender parity has progressed, but the women’s health gap remains wide. Women are often under-diagnosed and under-represented in health research. Biotropics is addressing this with clinical studies led by women, in three areas identified as priorities.

Heart health

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, and the risk rises after menopause as hormones change. Biotropics’ SLP+® and Nu-Femme® are both made with Kacip Fatimah (Labisia pumila), a traditional Malaysian herb for women. In studies of women before and after menopause, SLP+ improved blood lipids and lowered urinary 8-isoprostane, a marker of oxidative stress.

Menstrual and menopausal health

Women increasingly look for natural support through menstruation and menopause, for mental clarity, emotional balance, physical health and overall wellbeing. In clinical studies, SLP+ improved quality of life, including menstrual symptoms, stress and sleep. Nu-Femme was studied in women with menopausal symptoms, with lower hot flush scores at 12 and 24 weeks, fewer joint pain symptoms at 12 weeks and higher vitality scores at 24 weeks (Chinnappan et al. 2020, Food and Nutrition Research).

Brain health

For women with brain fog, or with menopause affecting mood, BioKesum® looks at several parts of mental and cognitive wellness. In a 6-month trial in older adults, it was studied for memory, executive function and mood, with lower anger, tension and anxiety scores (Lau et al. 2020, BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies).
