A Tongkat Ali sustainability study with Universiti Putra Malaysia

Studying the environmental impact and long-term viability of Tongkat Ali cultivation.

Putrajaya, 4 November 2025. Biotropics Malaysia Berhad and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have signed a Letter of Intent for the Sustainability Impact Study Program on Tongkat Ali and Related Products. The signing took place at the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas 2025, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Biotropics CEO Haliza Ramli signed for the company, with Professor Jalila Abu for UPM.

Together, Biotropics and UPM will build research frameworks for sustainability, assess environmental impact, and look at ways to keep Tongkat Ali cultivation and production viable for the long term.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is one of Malaysia’s most valuable natural resources and has been at the centre of Biotropics’ research and products from the start. The study is part of Biotropics’ plan to protect Malaysia’s botanical heritage while the herbal wellness sector grows.
